THE FOUR LOWER BODIES

Lois M. Grant, Ph.D.Dr. Grant holds a Ph.D. in Holistic Counseling Ministry. A former architect, she is now a Practitioner of Self-Discovery, who devotes her energies to Counseling, Teaching and Authoring.

In 1975 Lois was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. In 1982 she set out on the path of personal and spiritual expansion; it took 15 years for her to complete her healing. She tells her dramatic and touching story in Spirit at Work, A Journey of Healing. Following the publication of Spirit at Work Lois was asked to come up with a list of healing hints. She developed her "Twelve Step Healing Program" which evolved into her second book, Your Journey of Healing, A Workbook. Most recently she has created a CD - "Your Pyramid of Power." This guided meditation channeled from Archangel Michael features original music that transports the listener to another realm where healing and problem resolution are possible.

Dr. Grant has developed a compassionate method for the healing of emotional issues called Synergistic Release™. By taking the client into an altered state, in person or by telephone, the emotional body can be accessed and the Higher Self assists in the release of old feelings. The results are therapeutic relief that often lead directly to physical healing.

It is common knowledge in metaphysical circles that while we are on the planet we are a fragment of Spirit inhabiting a physical vehicle which carries us around while we learn the lessons of the physical plane. What is not so commonly known is that we actually are walking around inside four lower bodies: physical, etheric, mental and emotional. An extremely complex and inseparable energetic matrix interconnects these vibrating holographic bundles of electromagnetic energy. They work together, continuously communicating with each other; what happens in one body affects the other three. If one of the four lower bodies is the site of distress, this distress is keenly felt by the others. We cannot enjoy well-being if any one of our bodies is functioning in a less than healthy way.

The four lower bodies are indivisible and of equal importance, but it is interesting to note that the well-known metaphysical phrase "body, mind and spirit" acknowledges the existence of only three of the lower bodies. Somehow the Emotional Body is not included. It is possible that this reflects how even more so-called "enlightened" folks still prefer not to deal with their emotions. I think this is because it is hard work and can be very scary to get in touch with old emotional pain.

Because we can see and feel it, the Physical Body is universally acknowledged as being "real." This collection of energy vibrates slowly so that its density can function on the Physical Plane; it acts as means of transportation for the Etheric, Mental and Emotional bodies. Because most people know nothing of the other three bodies, in our culture it is common to believe that the Physical Body is who we really are.

The Etheric Body is a fine web of electromagnetic energy which closely surrounds the Physical Body. Electromagnetic Life Forces from the outer Universe are fed into the physical body through this web. The etheric or energy body is also called the aura or bioplasmic body. Prana or Chi flows through its channels to nourish the entire system. The etheric body stores all the information about an individual and lifetime events, particularly the original causes of physical, emotional and mental imbalances. We use the etheric body to tap into the Unified Field of Consciousness and to communicate with Spirit; if we block messages from Spirit, there will be energetic congestion in the Etheric Body.

It is possible to feel your etheric body. Shake or rub your hands together vigorously for two minutes. Then stop and feel the energy surging through your hands. Healers, such as practitioners of Reiki, Healing Touch, Quantum Touch, etc., guide this energy to heal their clients.

The Mental Body is associated with the physical brain as well as our actual thought processes. The lessons we learn during a lifetime are intellectually processed here, along with academic learning. When the lessons generate negative thoughtforms which are not resolved, negative energy takes up residence here instead of moving through it and mental energy clogs up.

The Emotional Body is involved with our feelings, which are a very powerful force. Emotional hurts are experienced here - let's call them "emotionforms." If emotional pain is not consciously acknowledged and released, emotionforms stay in the Emotional Body and it bogs down.

Any problem or challenge that develops during the lifetime will have its physical, spiritual, emotional and mental aspects. Most problems come about because of emotional pain or dysfunction. Emotions come up to say, "This bothers me. This hurts me. This angers me." If these feelings are denied or ignored, the issue will go to the physical body and will manifest as a minor problem that is symbolic of the emotions involved. Continued repression or denial of the emotions at work will eventually lead to more serious conditions. For truly complete healing, it is essential to heal the problem on all four levels.

The etheric body dies with the physical body, but the emotional and mental bodies create the soul and are immortal. They never die. This is how traumas from past lives can cause problems - old thoughtforms and emotionforms are still hanging out in the Mental and Emotional bodies and they can create dis-ease in a newly reincarnated body. They will stay with the soul until processed and released, no matter how many lifetimes it takes.

An unpleasant event, such as being physically or emotionally hurt by a parent, reverberates throughout the system. The Physical Body hurts where the pain was inflicted and effects can be visible. The Mental Body thinks something like, "There must be something wrong with me or this wouldn't have happened." And the Emotional Body recoils with fear, resentment, or self-hatred. Such injuries can be healed if comfort and support are given at the time. But if the comfort and support are unavailable, which is usually the case, repetition of hurtful incidents over time will burden the four lower bodies and this burden can eventually manifest as physical illness, depression or the general inability to live an effective life.

In our culture when a person has an illness, all efforts to heal the condition are typically centered on the physical body. The body's symptoms are beaten into submission with drugs and/or surgery and relief is often achieved - for a time. Dealing with the physical body is essential, but if that is the only area of concentration, complete healing cannot be achieved. Some people seek to understand their problems intellectually by undergoing counseling or psychoanalysis which can help the mental body to heal. But if the emotional body is ignored, the problems can only come back. One of my clients was about to leave the planet after enduring over a dozen surgeries. I told her, "You can heal your body with love." While she thought I was nuts, she decided to give it a try. Now, three years later, she has recreated her life and her body by getting in touch with the old, painful feelings in her emotional body, releasing boatloads of destructive emotionforms from this and other lifetimes, and learning to love her Self and her Body. She is now a walking miracle and in her newfound strength is now leading others to wholeness.

Many of us, especially men, are trained to deny our feelings. Little boys are told, "big boys don't cry." Since their feelings aren't acceptable, they learn to stuff them deep inside the emotional body. It is not easy to dig down years later, bring up this old stuff, feel it and let it go. People are often afraid that if they feel what they have been repressing, it will kill them. Yet it is essential to do this work - and it is work! - if one is to fully heal the physical vehicle. We can only heal what we can feel. Tears that have been repressed must be expressed. Big boys - and girls - need to cry!

Compassionate counselors create a safe place for feelings to be felt, processed and released. Negative thought- and emotionforms can be transformed and replaced with love to turn dysfunction into health so that all four of the lower bodies can heal and the ability to live life from a place of joy may be enhanced.
